Key Takeaways:
During the Mind The Gap Symposium my panel and I got to experience and learn a lot, we were also able to take away a lot from this project due to the amazing guest panelists that came to speak at our panel the Color of Cash. Many would agree that the guest panelists had a lot of amazing things to say and I believe they have opened up the eyes of many. Alejandro Tamayo one of the guest panelists shared a lot of his personal experiences, his stories have taught me about the world we live in today.I have grown as a student throughout the process of this project and I now know about the struggles that many go through everyday just to be able to put food on the table. He has taught me be a lot about the American Dream and how many people who are trying to pursue the dream are not able too. Alejandro told stories about when he was a border patrol agent and he was saddened by the fact that people in America are denying people from other countries who have been walking for days just to be able to make some money in America. Overall the stories our guest panelists shared have taught me a lot about life, they taught me about the everyday struggles that people go through, they taught me about how corrupt the country we call home is.
Memorable Moment:
The most memorable moment of this project would have to be when our guest panelist Pascual Aguilar was speaking, he was telling a personal story. Within his personal story he was explaining to the audience how he had gotten fired from a job for making a mistake that a co worker of his had made as well. The only reason he had gotten fired was because of the color of his skin, the co worker was a white male where Pascual was a latino. This is a memorable moment because it is honestly quite scary knowing that I am a latino as well and knowing that things like this occur in our everyday lives.
